In-Person Courses: The Jungle is Our Laboratory
At New World Phasmids, we believe the best way to master entomology and begin in taxonomy is where life happens: in the field.
Our in-person courses are a fully immersive educational experience, designed to transcend theory and focus on essential practical skills. We take the classroom to the heart of the tropical rainforest, offering an unparalleled opportunity to work with experts, apply real sampling techniques, and discover phasmid diversity in their natural habitat.
-
Total Ecosystem Immersion
Learn in situ. All our courses are conducted in nature reserves and areas of high biodiversity. You will not only study phasmids, but you will experience the ecosystem where they thrive.
-
Theory/Practice Balance
We combine basic theoretical sessions on the biology, ecology, and taxonomy of phasmids with an intensive practical focus. The aim is for you to feel comfortable identifying and sampling in a real-world environment.
-
Night-time Sampling Techniques
The vast majority of phasmids are nocturnal. The courses include night-time field excursions to apply specialised techniques for searching and collecting, a crucial skill for any entomologist.
-
Practical Taxonomy
You will learn to differentiate key genera and species in the field, take accurate collection data, and prepare specimens for subsequent scientific study.
