New World Phasmids was established to offer high-level technical consultancy for any project related to phasmids (stick and leaf insects), with a particular emphasis on the biodiversity of the Americas. Our work is a direct response to a critical paradox: while biodiversity disappears at an accelerated pace, the specialists capable of identifying it are becoming extinct, and the academic system is progressively abandoning technical training in applied systematics.

This project is led by Pablo Valero Riquelme, a specialist in New World phasmid systematics with 10 years of experience and an active researcher. His scientific contribution, which includes the description of 30 species and 4 genera new to science, guarantees the rigour of a technical direction designed to ensure that findings transcend simple observation.

In a scenario where only 12% of the world's territory has been sampled for insects, we do not limit ourselves to expert consultancy in Phasmida. We are the strategic ally for students, naturalists, and researchers with taxonomic projects involving any insect order; we provide the methodological support and scientific validation that the institutional system has ceased to guarantee.

Specialised Services

To address these technical and academic challenges, we provide the following lines of action:

Scientific Mentoring and Direction

We offer technical consultancy and ethical guidance for students and naturalists studying any insect taxonomic group. We professionalise your curiosity through the expert validation required for your findings and personal projects to become publishable science, always protecting your authorship against academic abuse or neglect.

Review and Enhancement of Collections

We combat the "Taxonomic Impediment" through the curatorship of institutional and private collections that have lost specialised personnel or funding. We transform "forgotten" material into real scientific assets through specialised technical identification in Phasmida.

Strategy for Reserves and Conservation

We illuminate the "blind spots" of Neotropical phasmid biodiversity, where taxonomic knowledge is almost non-existent. We convert the biological wealth of your reserve or station into rigorous technical inventories—fundamental tools for real territory management and the development of high-value scientific ecotourism programmes.

B2B Consultancy: Breeding and Creative Sector

We provide over 20 years of experience in breeding more than 150 phasmid species from around the world, ensuring the stability of live populations in zoos and insectariums through professional management protocols. We design assets for use in the outreach of this little-known insect order. We offer Scientific Fixing services for film projects, documentaries, art, and media that require morphological and behavioural rigour.

Scientific Culture and Outreach

We take the rigour of applied systematics beyond the laboratory. Talks, workshops, and specialised content to connect society with the unexplored biodiversity of Neotropical phasmids.

Patronage, Sponsoring, and Transfer

Professional mechanisms for scientific funding. Management of Sponsor a Species programmes for describing new species and communication projects for institutions seeking to link taxonomic rigour with social and educational impact.

New World Phasmids acts as the specialised technical bridge that validates taxonomic knowledge and connects it with real conservation, professional breeding, the creative sector, and the transfer of scientific culture to society.

Tropical rainforest

Live an unforgettable experience in the heart of the rainforest

Immerse yourself in the unexplored beauty of the Neotropical rainforests with our scientific expeditions. Discover the fascinating world of New World stick insects through our phasmid study projects in Panama and Ecuador.

Through Participatory Field Research, technicians, students, and advanced naturalists can integrate as research assistants in real sampling campaigns. This is an opportunity to apply rigorous methodologies in high-biodiversity environments, transforming exploration into formal scientific knowledge. Throughout the process, explore breathtaking landscapes, learn about tropical wildlife, meet like-minded individuals who share your passion for nature, and live an experience to remember for the rest of your life.
